 Legacy Story

Thompson Family

thompson1Claire Thompson, a senior Landscape Architecture major from Winchester, TN, shares a unique Bulldog legacy.

She is one of three children of Mary Claire and William Nordeck Thompson presently enrolled at UGA with a third planning to arrive next year.

Her mother, the former Mary Claire Pruitt (’82) and her father met while students at UGA. Mary Claire was a cheerleader and Miss UGA Football of 1981.

The family Bulldog heritage goes back to her grandfather, William Nordeck Thompson, Sr. (’52) of Mt. Vernon, GA who graduated from UGA along with his brothers Lawrence and Robert, and his sister Elizabeth.

William Sr. had four children and all of them attended UGA including her father, William, Jr., her uncle, Bert Thompson of Macon. and two aunts Phyllis Johnson of Hazelhurst, GA and Edith Faircloth of Juliett, GA.

thompson2And there are numerous cousins and other relatives who attended UGA including one cousin, Tommy Thompson who played football.

Claire and her two siblings presently at UGA are all majoring in Landscape Architecture. They are serving the legacy well. Claire was recently elected to the prestigious Order of Omega and Leadership UGA. She is also the outgoing president of her sorority, Chi Omega.

Her sister, Kathryn is a sophmore and also a member of Chi Omega. Both she and Claire have participated iin Studies Abroad programs. Claire studied in Cortona last summer and Kathryn participated in Costa Rica. Kathryn will spend this summer in Cuba.

Nick (William III) was elected to Freshman Board this year. There may be more “Thompson Bulldogs” in the future because Claire, Kathryn and Nick have three younger sisters.
