You expect to find a lot of dogs around a veterinary hospital – but two legged dogs?
That’s the situation at Honey Creek Veterinary Hospital in Conyers owned by Dr. R. Flynn Nance and his wife Dr. Susan Aldridge Nance. He holds three degrees from UGA including a B.S., ’77, an M.S.,’79, and a D.V.M.,’83. His wife holds two degrees, a B.S., ’78 and D.V.M., ’84.
Two other vet school alums work with them, Dr. Leslie Jacobs Lanthem, ’82 and ’85, and Dr. Shannon Cook Miller, 2000 and 2004.
Dr. Nance is part of a three generation legacy. His father, Robert Nance, graduated from UGA in 1930 and was on the field when they dedicated Sanford Stadium when the Dogs defeated Yale in 1929.
Their daughter, Elizabeth Grace Nance is a freshman, a member of Phi Mu sorority and lives in Russell Hall where her father roomed when he was a student.
His niece, Melissa Kurz Johnson is a fourth year veterinary student at UGA and is earning a M.S. degree in public health concurrent with her veterinary studies.
Susan’s brother, Joseph Aldridge, received his B.S. in Mathematics from UGA in 1977.
Avid sports fans through the years, the Nances have held season tickets for football, basketball and gymnastics. Dr. Nance says they travel to all away football games each year except for Tennessee. He “just can’t take that stadium.”
