The Bill Mathews family of Calhoun, GA claims eleven UGA alumni and covers three generations.
Heading up this remarkable family are Bill D.,’49 BBA, and Bobbie Starr, ’50 BAEd. Bill and Bobbie had two sons and a daughter who attended UGA and two daughters –in-law and four grandchildren who are UGA grads.
James (Jim) ‘77 BBA, Finance, married Kathryn Waters, ’77 BBA, and their two sons, Robert H. ’05 BBA, and William. B., ’08 BBA are Georgia Bulldogs.
Bill and Bobbie’s other son, William Mathews attended but did not graduate. However, his wife Becky Bond Mathews, ’75 graduated as did their two daughters Helen ’01 BBA and Susan, ’95 AB History. Susan married David Rutland, ’05 BBA. They live in Calhoun and have one daughter.
The Mathew’s daughter, Mary D. ’80 AB French now resides and teaches in Naples, FL.
Nine of the Mathews family alumni group reside in Calhoun and several are involved in the family business, The Starr-Mathews Agency, founded by Bill and Bobbie.
William is in the carpet industry has his own business which involves his wife and son-in-law.
