Johnson Family

e_johnsonOne UGA Alumni Association staff member is proud to be a fourth generation UGA alumna.

Susan Johnson, BSED ‘71, who began her duties as an administrative assistant for the Association January 1, 2007, traces her Bulldog lineage back to her grandfather John Etheredge ‘26 who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture.

Etheredge later taught at Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College where he also coached the baseball team. His daughter and Johnson’s mother, Ellie Etheredge Hancock ‘38, ‘71, received her bachelor’s degree in home economics and her master’s degree in Education.

Johnson met her late husband, Curtis Johnson ‘71, at UGA where he earned his bachelor of business administration degree in Management.

Their daughter Christina, BSW ‘97, married Toby Lane, BBA’97. They live in Atlanta where Christina is an investment consultant and Toby is a mortgage broker.

The Johnson’s son Daniel, BSA works in Atlanta as an environmental engineer.

Other Bulldogs in Johnson’s family include her uncle, William Etheredge, BS’35, now deceased, and aunt, Sara Etheredge Teeter, ABJ’42.

Johnson also is related to two women important in UGA history. Jennie Bell McPhaul Myers ‘27, who Myers Hall is named for, was the cousin of Johnson’s grandmother, Mrs. John Etheredge.

Myers’ sister, Margaret McPhaul is whom the McPhaul Children’s Center is named. McPhaul was director of the center from 1937-61.
