Mr. Angel “weighing in”
Many UGA alumni were serving in Europe or the Pacific in the forties while others served at home like the Georgia bulldog mascot “Mr. Angel” who served during the war years from 1944-46.
According to Marie E. Coleman Wilson, ‘46, of Lilburn, known to her friends as “Bootee,” Mr. Angel was “a gorgeous brindle and white English Sour Mug who belonged to her father, the late Dr. Warren A. Coleman of Eastman, GA.
During his first year as mascot, Mr. Angel won a blue ribbon in the Atlanta Kennel Dog Show. He was one of a number of mascots who served through the years prior to the beginning of the UGA line which began with UGA I in 1956.
