Calun Dianne Long

e_longlegCalun Dianne Long is a third generation Bulldog who wants to follow in the steps of her grandfather, the late C. Ambrose Long, Jr., ‘49, a well known trial lawyer in our state.

A junior from Fayetteville, majoring in Public Relations and Religion, Calun wants to go to Law School after graduation.

Her father, Calhoun Ambrose, III, graduated from UGA in 1977. He and his wife, Judy, have three younger daughters.

Campbell Family

e_campbellCliff Campbell ‘50 of Thomasville, Ga. heads up a three-generation UGA alumni legacy. Before moving to Thomasville in 1969, Cliff, a retired banker and president of the former Alumni Society 1987-89, worked in Atlanta and Albany.

Cliff’s son, Clay ‘80, is a current UGA Alumni Association Board member. Clay, who also lives in Thomasville, is president of Archbold Health Care Inc. and is married to the Frances (Holland) ‘80.

Carr Family

e_carrThe late Dr. Wesley Allen Carr (BS ‘38) of Augusta, Ga. headed up a three-generation UGA alumni legacy that continues to expand. After graduation, Carr attended dental school and became an oral surgeon. He served on the State Board of Health for many years. His daughter, Paula Karen Carr ‘71 received her bachelor’s of art in Psychology. She married Sammy C. Turner and they now reside in Martinez, Ga. Cox Family

e_cox2Martha Holland Cox, class of ‘70, of Camilla, Ga., is a third generation alumna with a legacy that includes seven UGA graduates in her immediate family.

Martha majored in elementary education, following in the footsteps of her late mother, Ava Nelson Holland, Class of ‘71, of Perry, Ga. Martha is married to Cader Cox III, class of ‘71, who majored in Business Administration.

They have three children who graduated from the University of Georgia including Martha Cox Kirbo of Moultrie who received a degree in Accounting in ‘96 and graduated from Law School in 2000. … continue reading »


Cox-Cunningham Family

legacyccCarolyn Wildes Cunningham (ABJ ‘77) is part of a three generation UGA legacy.

Jubal Anderson Early (J.A.E.) Cox ‘29, affectionately known as “Alphabet” Cox, graduated with a bachelor of science degree in agriculture. While at UGA, he helped train the football team.

A vocational agriculture teacher, Jubal also was a County Extension agent in Nahunta, Hazlehurst, and Woodbine, Georgia. Dr. Tomlinson Fort ‘52

fortTomlinson Fort ‘52, a nationally recognized educator, is an UGA alumnus who is proud of his red and black legacy that reaches back to 1785, when the University was chartered.

Dr. Fort was recently named Centennial Professor of Chemical Engineering, Emeritus, at Vanderbilt University. He and his brother, James S. Fort ‘54, are the fifth generation of their family to be associated with the University of Georgia. When it was time to choose a college, for freshman Elizabeth Allen Madray ‘07 of Houston, Texas, it came down to a feeling in her heart. She was accepted by several prestigious schools, but the University of Georgia was her final decision. She grew up in Louisiana and Texas, but had made numerous trips to Georgia and Athens. Ginn Family

Mary Frances Ginn, a senior from Cartersville, is a fourth generation Bulldog from a family which includes more than a dozen UGA alumni.

Her parents and both her maternal and paternal grandparents are graduates along with a host of uncles, aunts and cousins.

Her UGA legacy began in 1911 when her great grandfather, Candler M. Ginn of Royston, Ga., enrolled in the University. He had two brothers, Stark, ’13, and Rucker, ’14, who also came to UGA and were stars on the UGA baseball team. According to Mary Frances’s late grandfather, Candler’s son Olin W. Harrell Family

Russell A. Harrell, ‘73, of Winterville is proud to be part of a four generation UGA alumni family.

According to Russell, it all began with his grandfather Augustus O. Harrell who attended UGA before graduating from the Medical College of Georgia. For many years, Dr. Harrell practiced medicine in Clarke County and the surrounding area.

Russell’s parents Joseph R. ’64 and Grady Lou Harrell ’64 both graduated from the UGA School of Pharmacy. Russell’s father was also a chiropractor.

Johnson Family

e_johnsonOne UGA Alumni Association staff member is proud to be a fourth generation UGA alumna.

Susan Johnson, BSED ‘71, who began her duties as an administrative assistant for the Association January 1, 2007, traces her Bulldog lineage back to her grandfather John Etheredge ‘26 who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Agriculture.

Etheredge later taught at Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College where he also coached the baseball team. His daughter and Johnson’s mother, Ellie Etheredge Hancock ‘38, ‘71, received her bachelor’s degree in home economics and her master’s degree in Education.
