Jon McGavin set two records upon his appointment to the helm of the 553-room luxury hotel icon: he is the first graduate of the University of Georgia to be named general manager of the state’s most renowned Ritz-Carlton hotel, and at 38, the youngest to earn the role. “For many people in the city and the southeast, this hotel symbolizes Ritz-Carlton like no other,” said Mr. McGavin. “It is a great pleasure to have the leadership position here, and a great responsibility to be the brand architect for The Ritz-Carlton, Buckhead of the future.” Prior to this appointment, Mr. McGavin was hotel manager at The Ritz-Carlton, Orlando, Grande Lakes, managing operations for the resort’s 584 guestrooms, 11 restaurants, 40,000-sq. ft. spa, golf club and more than 110,000-sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor meeting space. He began his career in the food and beverage division at the company’s beachfront resort in Amelia Island in 1991, and moved to The Ritz-Carlton, Atlanta just in time to experience the excitement of the Summer Olympics in 1996. Two years later he moved to The Ritz-Carlton, Cleveland as food and beverage director, and then held the same role at The Ritz-Carlton, Marina del Rey in Southern California. He moved to Orlando in 2003 as food and beverage director and was promoted to hotel manager in 2005. Mr. McGavin holds a Bachelor of Science, Hotel and Restaurant Management, from the University of Georgia. He is a licensed pilot and enjoys flying on the weekends when he is not training for his third marathon. He lives with his family in the city.
